Season of
Mourning
Formed in
the Summer of 1997, SEASON OF MOURNING was originally the
collaboration of guitarist Billy and vocalist Czar, who had
known each other for sometime previous to SOfM . Upon a chance
meeting, the two discussed what they were looking for in a
band, and realized that they were on the same page in as far
as what they wanted …thus SEASON OF MOURNING was born.
Originally
formed under the name IN MOURNING… , the search was now on
to fill out the rest of the band. The drum position was
quickly filled by Jesse, who Czar had known from the local
music scene. Jesse shared the same interest in "dark
music", so he was an immediate fit. Unfortunately, the
other spots in the band were not as easy to fill. Many came
and went (one during the actual recording of the first demo).
Finally, the band settled on the line up of Billy (guitars),
Czar (vocals), Jesse (drums), Erica (violin/female vocals),
Bob (bass), and Hugh (keyboards). All joined the band by late
1998.
In the
Summer of 1999, and now with a stable line up, the band was
finally ready to unleash themselves on the public. The band
made an immediate impact on the Philadelphia scene with their
unique brand of gothic metal. In only their second show, they
were asked to fill one of the opening slots for The
Gathering/Switchblade Symphony show at Philadelphia's famed
Trocadero Theatre. More shows followed. In May 2000, after
numerous delays, the band released their first cd/demo
entitled "In Praise Of the Dark". With the addition
of a second guitarist, Bobby, SOfM began to play out more and
more, with many shows in the Tri-State area, including an
appearance at Philadelphia's premier gothic event, Dracula's
Ball.
The Winter
of 2000 saw the band head into the studio to record what would
end up being their first full length cd, "Fall". The
self financed cd was released in August of 2001. Upon it's
release, the band parted company with violinist/female
vocalist Erica. Fortunately, a quick replacement was found in
Lauren, who had been recommended to the band by a friend. With
a new line up, the band plans on once again taking to the
stage in support of "Fall".
